John Hardie made his debut for Scotland against Italy in Turin in August 2015. Following his part in the win, he started in the final Summer Test against France.

Selected to train with the extended squad in the lead up to Rugby World Cup 2015, Hardie was in the starting XV in the Pool B victories over Japan and Samoa, and scored in both matches, before featuring in the quarter-final loss to Australia.

Since his arrival, Hardie has been a prominent and persistent feature in the Scotland side, proving to be one of the finest fetchers in the northern hemisphere.

He continued his run of Test appearances for Scotland in the 2016 RBS 6 Nations, in which he started all five games (taking his tally to 10) and scoring his third international try, against Italy.

Through the ranks

John Hardie is eligible to play for Scotland through his grandmother Christina Lumsden from Low Valleyfield, Culross in Fife,

By the time he arrived in Scotland he had made 53 appearances for Super Rugby side Highlanders, scoring four tries, and was part of the squad who won the Championship in 2015.

The back-row also tasted cup-winning success with provincial side Southland, lifting the coveted Ranfurly Shield in 2009 and 2011.

Following the Rugby World Cup 2015, Hardie signed a two-year contract with Edinburgh Rugby.
