Ryan Wilson, who is eligible for Scotland on account of a maternal grandfather from Motherwell, and made his Scotland debut as a second-half substitute for Johnnie Beattie in the 2013 RBS 6 Nations Championsip match against Wales at BT Murrayfield.
His first start then came for Scotland was at openside flanker against South Africa in Nelspruit in June, before his breakthrough into international rugby was confirmed in the 2014 RBS 6 Nations – featuring in every round, starting all but once.
Wilson then featured against Italy and France in the 2015 Summer Tests before being named in the 31-man Scotland squad for Rugby World Cup 2015; starting three out of his four outings – all wins – against Japan, USA and Samoa, and coming on as a replacement against South Africa.
Ryan is a former pupil of Lord Wandsworth College (Hampshire) and Frensham Heights School (Surrey).
He also played for London Irish and Wasps in the English premiership’s A League as well as the Four London Academies in an under-19 match against France. Ryan signed for Glasgow Warriors in summer 2010.
He was a try-scorer on his Scotland under-19 international debut in the win against Italy in Parabagio, near Milan, in February 2008.
Four under-20 international starts followed in the IRB Junior World Championship in Japan in June 2009, Ryan making his debut in the Tokyo match against England.
He then made his Scotland A debut in the 32-13 win over Ireland Wolfhounds at Netherdale in January 2011, returning as a replacement in the emphatic 35-0 win over England Saxons the following year, before captaining the side to victory over their English counterparts in 2013 (the first win for the side on English soil, 13-9).
